I'm a networker and I'm doing an overview of this MU* so as to aid all within the educational Mu* community. I'm currently involved with the TinyMuck 'Divination Web', which has a restricted subject focus (spirituality and occultism), as well as a very loose administrative structure (working from consensus - currently 5 managers/Wbits, including me). I've contacted a Mud called 'Solar System Simulation' (SolSysSim/SSS), which is working with Universities as an Anthropology aid by allowing such students to construct projects that derive from known scientific laws and principles, working together to accomplish idealistic goals. Two examples: a science station beneath the polar ice cap, a base on Mars. This Mud is connected with DragonMud in a somewhat similar way that you are connected with LambdaMOO. It has firm university support (NAU/CSE), or at least it did when I made contact some months ago. They do give tours and are interested in coordinating with people who have university contact, perhaps quite like DU. For that reason I was not suited to participate in their project, especially given our divergent interests (religion/science). Contact information for SSS follows: Reed D. Riner; rdr@naucse.cse.edu; the last telnet address I have for it is 184.114.64.4 4321. If the email address above doesn't work, try rdr@naucse.cse.nau.edu. There is a simulation of a Technology Museum in San Jose, where I currently reside. It is called 'TechMOOseum' and has been operating for approximately a year. I don't know how many similar interests they may have to your own, but they probably do attempt to coordinate with the schools for tours and input. The latest contact information I have on this MOO is Eric Schwartz, eric@whyanext.com; telnet address for the MOOseum: 156.151.253.1 8888. As for Divination Web itself, you may contact me for information about it. We started the TinyMuck a little more than a year ago, experimenting with the medium (building symbolic structures for visualizations/education, plus networking via community gatherings and the creation of public meeting spots) and generally firming up the mechanism of the administration. We're using Usenet and email list to advertise our existence, since our audience is not just university folks but anyone and everyone. Recently we moved to another version of TinyMuck and left the old buildings in favor of starting from a clean database. With a greater social foundation we hope to put regulations in place that will keep us from having Db-space problems that contribute to the lack of a firm site willing to support the Web. Our admin conversation continues and we'll likely begin serious rebuilding within a month. Meanwhile, I'm researching DU. :> You can get to Divination Web, such as it is, via telnet, at bill.math.uconn.edu 9393. If you have any questions about it, please contact me on DU or at tyagi@cup.portal.com. Also, if you would be so kind, please pass on to me any information that you have about other educational/nongame Mu*s, such as MediaMOO, which I've only heard about, or any other public or private project. Thank you for your time. Happy MOOing. :> Tyagi Nagasiva [now nagasiva@yronwode.com] --------------------------
