Sheahan) writes: |i think it's more in the line of an attempt to demonize them. this |seems to me tremendously amusing. This is correct. A precise exegetical study of the texts of Satanism is in order, I gather. Failing this (I have only begun such a review), it would seem that an overview of the cult as it progresses through history, as a comparison among those contributing to the forum, would be valuable. This is the progression of the Great Martyrdom Cult as I know it (some maintain that these are the Hordes of Cthulhu): 1 Jew (of a particular type?) (of this first I am unsure, though I gather it may have fit in with the seasonal slaying of the regent described in some texts) =>=>=>=> 2 Christian (early, mostly those eaten by lions, though there may be entire strands of which I know absolutely nothing) =>=>=>=> 3 Witch (Gardner, fractionated rebels in Europe, refugees from anthropology and anti-Christians; sometimes this appears to include those called 'Neopagans') =>=>=>=> 4 Satanist (LaVey, others) =>=>=>=> Vampire? (Temple of, Riceans, etc.) Feral Iconoclast? (James Dean, etc.) Japanese Death Cultists? (AUM AUM AUM) Nazis???????????? The prototypical fractionation of this progression is * Animal Torturer This is the most consistently opposed feature of 'Satanism' * Blood Drinker Vampires, Witches and Satanists have been accused of it in the recent past * Child Eater/Killer Cannibals, Satanists and Witches (of various sorts) who ritually kill children for their benefit * Heretical Sociopath Jew, Christian, Witch and Satanist, they all reside within this label by the Accuser * Black Magician Notice that organized Satanists focus very specifically on black magick of 'Greater' and 'Lesser' varieties. Witchcraft is often accused of being the equivalent of 'black magick' by those who are used to stories that imply any magical act done outside the authority of the Church is 'evil' * Follower of the Dark Lord Satanists and Witches more often than Jews or Christians, but thats cuz it be the Christians that usually voice condemnation, and occasionally the Witches have obliged (;>) * Blind Puppets of Megalomaniacs Satanists, Muslims and Jews are sometimes cast in this role, but usually it is the concept of a misled and ignorant slave of a demonic or malevolent entity of spiritual or political power; this is perhaps a more martial of a problem There will be followers of various hated individuals, such as Charles Manson, Jim Jones, L. Ron Hubbard, Aleister Crowley, and Adolf Hitler. No doubt some future-perfect space-brain will concoct the Alien Invasion (in which he and his cohorts identify themselves as the aliens), and the legions of those who worship the Kreechurz of Kathulu will inevitably increase, causing the overthrow of all human civilization and the end of terran culture as we know it. All this is of course associated with the number 666 and the coming of the end of this millenium. A vast and unknown power writhes beneath the flimsy fabric of our conscious minds. It feeds, a dragon, upon our very souls. It strikes at us like poison and lightning, sending us dreams of lying awake late at night and staring into the Waking Eye (the I that is WE). Our challenge, after the development of Satanism as an accepted religion and the Psychopathic Cults begin their reign of terror upon the global mind, is to look directly at them with a full and skeptical attention, remembering that doubt is the weapon of the true scientist, and that certainty is the horror that consumes. The next cultist you meet might be the Herald of a New Aeon, a Sociological Shaman of untold influence, a Global Psychiatrist, ready to ream the academic world of entertainment and physics problems; someone who will top out the Antagonism Factor on their satanism without trespassing the letter of the Law. Eventually, this individual or group will catalyze a global and lasting phenomenon which will result in a general and lasting awakening (including of the energies and entities we so dearly love and desire). For now the faithful are instructed to sacrifice when possible, keep in communication with the Elder Gods, and summon Them when the stars are right. ny'rl'toth'p The Ordur ov K@s Undor Satin (TOKUS) tyagi@houseofkaos.abyss.com ------------------------------ I suggest as background material the books: _Faces of the Enemy: Reflections of the Hostile Imagination_, by Sam Keen, and _The Psychology of Social Movements_, by Hadley Cantril, and _Social Psychology_, by John W. Kinch. I haven't read these cover to cover, only skimmed and used them in research efforts, but they look pertinent to this subject category: persecution : martyrdom : sociology: social psychology I'm sure that other books on Alienation and Objectivism might also apply (Fromm?). _________________________________________________________________ Set? Some Thelemites use old hose-nose for a deity. He is one, after all. Most Thelemites of my acquaintance prefer Horus, Set's blood enemy in most of the myths involving the two. Considering some focus or other a deity has nothing to do with worshiping the critter. Worship is not a good way to relate to deities in most instances. As to Satan, there is no connection between Set and Satan, save in modern pseudo philology. Satan, as the Christians use the term, is utterly alein to Thelema. heidrick@well.sf.ca.us (Bill Heidrick): alt.religion.scientology -- CC public responses to email. READ alt.magick.tyagi.
