Chuparrosa is an old hoodoo formula for anointing oil , incense, sachet powders, candles, and washing products that are designed to bring about a condition of ideal love, founded in honesty and truth. These spiritual supplies are usually used when the lover is someone the practitioner knows -- that is, they are not used to attract a new or unknown lover -- rather they are used to foster a marital partnership infused with fidelity, loyalty and loving communication.
The labels shown here are from Lucky Mojo brand Chuparrosa vigil candle, foil packages of Chuparrosa sachet powders, Chuparrosa incense powders, Chuparrosa bath crystals, and a 1/2 oz. bottle of Chuparrosa oil for anointing oneself or dressing candles or a mojo bag.
Like the rest of the Lucky Mojo line, these products contain genuine reputed love-drawing and nature-enhancing herbs and herbal essential oils, not synthetic fragrances. Lucky Mojo labels are adapted from vintage packaging as traditional as the ingredients themselves.
Chuparrosa is one of a family of related formulas that also includes Dixie Love, Love Me, Come To Me, Bewitching, Cleo May, Marriage, Kiss Me Now!, Follow Me Boy, Look Me Over, and Fire of Love products. Each one of these old-time recipes is slightly different -- some placing emphasis on passion, others on physical attractiveness, or control of a lover, or all of these combined with good fortune and luck at love and romance -- but they have in common the underlying aim of enhancing one's internally generated forces, enabling action upon the external world.
The above formulas may, of course, be mixed and matched in any way that suits the practitioner, or may be teamed up with formulas from another line of goods, such as a financial or money luck formula like Money Drawing, or a female domination spell formula like Stay With Me.
How you choose to use Chuparrosa spiritual supplies is, of course, up to you, but one very traditional method is to employ the perfumed oil as a personal scent to draw love. Another method involves laying down sachet powders in one's bedroom to enflame desire or setting a dressed and prepared Chuparrosa vigil candle, on one's altar. When starting Chuparrosa work, some people like to get things going with a full-blown magic spell and then continue to use the oil to dress themselves, their body or clothing, or the bedroom in which they are trying to seduce a lover.
The Hummingbird is the creator god of the Pomo Indians, the tribe that first occupied the region where i live in California. Yearly Hummingbird dances are held a few miles from my home. The Hummingbird parts are danced by teenaged boys with flutes, the flower parts are danced by teenaged girls. The form of the dance is a line dance by the girls, and the boys circle them and approach them each in turn, as Hummingbirds approach flowers.
This indigenous veneration of the Hummingbird as a deity with sexual and love harbinger overtones extends all down the Pacific coast and into what is now Mexico, where it can be found in the form of reverence for La Chuparosa (the Rose-Sucker in Spanish). In Mayan Mexican folk magic, the Hummingbird is also the symbol of -- and again, actually the ancient deity of -- love, sex, and marriage.
Here is a contemporary incantatory love spell taken from a Mexican votive candle that, beneath its veil of Catholic formality, literally calls upon the indigenous Divine Hummingbird for a blessing on love. I shall give it both in Spanish and in English translation; note that the word "chupa" can be translated as "suck out" or "extract" and is used as a reference to the bird's name (Chuparosa) and as a magical instruction to the bird.
