I experienced this while living in 2 different isolated rural communes with populations of 10 - 40 people (5 - 20 women). It is the isolation from masses of women that allows it to develop -- your body tries to get in synch with any other women's, but if you are exposed to random female pheromones all day, there is too wide a field of variation for complete synchrony to actually occur. Also, in actual practice, there is generally are "leader" females, to whose cycle the others gradually adjust. In animal pack terms she would be the "alpha bitch." When i was young (18 - 20) i was one of the ones whose period adjusted to that of the older women (mid to late 20s). When i was in my mid to late 20s, i was one of the ones to whom incoming younger women's cycles synchronized. cat yronwode
