This is a blatant misquote of the Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus. It
is continually pedalled by wiccans such as the Farrars and their ilk,
although the greater blame lies with Dion Fortune, from whom it was
originally plagiarised.

The correct quote is "True, without error, certain and most true: that which
is above is as that which is below, and that which is below is as that which
is above, to perform the miracles of the One Thing."

"As above, so below" misses out half the quote: one could equally say "as
below, so above" and go on to argue that the physical plane will pass away,
but it will be the astral that will continue. (I do not necessarily claim
that either proposition is correct).
