Tarq: It is used in the sense of divination in which women threw stones [at birds, to make them fly - cat]. Iyafah: It means geomancy by drawing lines. ------ Book 23, Number 3899: Muhammad b. Ja'far said on the authority of 'Awf: 'Tarq means to make the birds fly by threatening them. Iyafah means lines drawn on the earth.' ------ Book 23, Number 3900: Narrated Mu'awiyah b. al-Hakam al-Sulamy : I said: Apostle of Allah - among us there are men who practise divination by drawing lines. He said: There was a Prophet who drew lines, so if anyone does it as he drew lines, that is right. ------
