According to http://www.libralion.com/lenormand.htm : "Marie Anne Adelaide Lenormand was born on 27 Mai 1772 in Alencon, France. When she was 21 she left for Paris and there she learned how to read the cards. Together with a certain Madame Gilbert she started a parlor, where she did the card-reading. She became very popular and read the cards for: Napoleon, Josephine de Beauharnais, Robespierre, Louis 18th etc. She also met the Russian emperor Alexander."
