One of the simplest methods is to find a bowl that has a black matte
glaze on the interior. (I found a Japanese bowl that has a quite
lovely black matte glaze inside, and a green gloss glaze on the
outside.)

If you can't find a bowl matching this description, you might be able
to find a ceramic shop that will let you buy a bowl, glaze it, and
return it to the shop for firing.

Fill the bowl with water.

Voila; scrying tool.

Corbie
