This is part of a continuing series of posts on Roman
Catholic folkmagick. Roman Catholocism is a part of
the heretical branch of Judaism known as Christianity.
It is far too complicated for me to discuss here, except
to mention that there is a strong tradition of folkmagick
in Catholocism. Much of it has to do with developing a
personal relationship with one or more of the saints or
angels including -- the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM), Jesus
the Christ, (and occasionally the Holy Ghost/Spirit or
God-the-Father). The saint/energy/thoughtform becomes
as a real (esoteric) power. Those into santeria would also
find this of interest. (Anti-xtian bigots hit the "next" key
now before you start foaming at the mouth.)

Prayer to St. Jude

O Holy St. Jude, Apostle and
Martyr, great in virtue and rich in
miracles, near kinsman of Jesus
Christ, faithful intercessor of all
who invoke your special patronage
in time of need, to you I have
recourse from the depth of my
heart and humbly beg to whom
God has given such great power to
come to my assistance. Help me in
my present and urgent petition. In
return I promise to make your
name known and cause you to be
invoked. St. Jude pray for us and
all who invoke your aid. Amen.

Meditate on request being made of St. Jude.
Next say 3 Our Fathers, 3 Hail Marys and 3 Glorias.
Publication must be promised [this means that a
short note must be published in a paper either in memory
of St. Jude or asking his blessing, usually seen in eithnic
or local newspapers] Often it is followed up with a
published "thank you". This novena has never been known to
fail. [A Novena is a prayer formula using 9, either 9
dyas or 9 hours or 9 prayers.] St. Jude is the patron of
desperate cases.

Prayer to St. Jude

   St. Jude, glorious Apostle, faith-
ful servant and friend of Jesus, the
name of the person has caused you
to be forgotten by many, but the true
Church involkes you universally as the
Patron of things despaired of; pray for
me, who am so miserable; pray for
me, that finally I may receive the con-
solations and the succour of Heaven
in all my necessities, tribulations and
sufferings, particularly [fill in request], and
that I may bless God with the Elect
throughout Eternity.

   Amen.

Feast Day: October 28
Patron of Desperate Cases
