Higher powered means than the more so than the magician's magickal
potency. Either by having less will or some other factor that makes the
entity powerful enough to ignore the ward. This would be the case if
the entity were an extremely powerful and elemental even though it
would normally be subject to the LBRP because of it's sphere of origin.

More complex: The LBRP is designed to be effective in the lower
spheres of the tree of life model. Thus entities from the higher
spheres of the tree including thier infernal counterparts would be less
affected by it, -perhaps not at all.

The Supreme Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (SBRP) banishes all the
elements directly where as the LBRP does so indirectly through the
elements association with Malkuth. The pentagrams traced (in the LBRP)
are the banishing pentagram of earth only. It is kind of a reinforced
or "turbocharged" version of the LBRP.

The Banishing Ritual of the Hexagram (BRH) is designed to affect and
pertain to the upper spheres of the Tree of life model and thus extends
to beings not covered by the LBRP. This is perhaps too brief a summary.

This explanation stems from my admittedly imperfect understanding of
the Kabbalah and the rituals mentioned. Many magicians more advanced
in thier studies than I debate the exact meaning, significance and
nuances of these rituals for days on end. I hope that I at least gave
you an idea of the reasoning behind them, but I suspect that you
already were familiar with them anyway. ;)
