: The Golden Dawn is that Divine Illumination which comes to a man (or
: woman) who succeeds in contempation.

Irregardless of Word's blithering above, the Golden Dawn as a
organization, organized in a manner similar to the Freemasons, which
promoted a particular kind combination of Hermetic magic, Qabalah, and
various other spiritual disciplines or ideas. It self-destructed in the
early 20th century and certain individuals have been fighting over the
pieces ever since.

The Golden Dawn's great gift to us all was that they compiled a complex
and workable system for doing magic and for spiritual advancement. This
has been, for the most part, published. Look for _The Golden Dawn_ by
Israel Regardie which contains most of the available order material.
