You comments crystallize a particular point: it seems like if we had
only changed ONE THING -- if we had left every last bit of the old GD
rituals intact but moved Ra-Hoor to the throne of the East, that itself
would have been so much of a change that Re would be insisting we have
no right to call ourselves "Golden Dawn".

Hey, we still could have left "Horus the Younger" in the West; the old
Order had "Horus the Elder" on the Past Hierophant's throne. THAT made a
lot of sense, didn't it? The son of the King/Hierophant was represented
as the PAST Hierophant. Did I miss something?

Even having the Prince of the Sun in the place of Dark and Twilight (the
West), wearing black and declaring himself, "I am the Darkness..."
always seemed a bit odd to me.

Instead we have Ra-Hoor on the throne of the rising sun, Set on the
throne of darkness, and Osiris on the throne of the Past Hierophant.
<sarcasm> Why, that makes no sense at all, does it? </sarcasm>

But hey, logic and common sense be damned! We're talking about
*tradition* here! (Strike up the chorus of Zero Mostels in yarmulkes
