I once met some folks who work situals in their home and they told me me something similar: They were moving into an apartment with funky old wall-to-wall carpeting which was due to be replaced and so they arranged with the landlord that if he would pay for the materials, they would pay for the labour and have the carpeting done by a friend in exchange for a discount on their first month's rent. The landlord agreed to this. They pulled up the old carpet, laid out their sigilic design in paint on the bare plywood floor, performed a consecrating rite upon the sigil, then had their friend cover it all over with new wall-to-wall carpet. THEY know it's still under there, and that's all that matters. (What the landlord will think when he eventually pulls that carpet up for replacement is anyone's guess!)
