Yes, but even the most rarified of mental magic often requires the use of sigils, symbolic elements, a mirror, or pen-and-paper. > I am trying to develop emotion/will/intent/imagination with the aim > of achieving greater awareness. If ceremonial magic is not your interest, but mental magic is, i would like to suggest that you investigate the writings of Paschal Beverly Randolph or his followers and descendents in the tradition. Randolph was a 19th century mage (1825-1875) who developed a very intense program of magic that utilized only will, body posture, mental conditioning, trance-possession, and simple aids to scrying, such as a mirror or a piece of white paper and a dark spot for a "target." He also advocated the use of drugs -- especially hashish -- in achieving transcendence. His three-part method of volantia (will), decretism (affirmation), and posisim (acceptance) is a classic study in mental magic. He was the first writer to deal with the relationship between Will and Love in nagic ("Will reigns Omnipotent; Love lieth at the Foundation" ["Mysteries of Eulis," 1874]). I have written a short introduction to his work with sex-nmagic, but there are entire books on him -- and by him -- of course.
