I used blood straight and a stylus, dipped in the blood directly and applied to the paper. the paper I used was some I'd created *myself* at a booth in a no-longer- existing Renaissance Faire (:(.....). it is said that the skin of animals (sheep/parchment) is valuable for magical activities, but there are also conjures who use torn brown paper and witches and others who prefer some expensive paper/"parchment" they obtain from a shop. "best" here is somewhat subjectively-determined. it may be valuable to consider the purpose of the working (e.g. I had already used the home-made paper on the other side for a particularly valuable sigil, and had written on its back the pact I made with Satan which I was signing in my own blood). someone in already suggested mixing the blood with charcoal powder, which sounds interesting.
