I'm not sure how many girl etymologists would approve of this. that one's pretty popular, though. > or everyone witches? don't forget that we're not just dealing with small groups here, but with great big groups of people too! so 'everyone' could get pretty large pretty fast. however, this assertion is *also* correct. in many Neopagan circles the term 'witch' is considered an acceptable substitute for 'Wiccan', for example, while in other circles one or both would be rejected. ;> amongst the Neopagan "witches" with whom I have shared time, most of them were also Wiccans. all of these words are self-identifications. one of the prime advantages of self-identifying with "witch" is that one might take on the quest of making Christians take responsibility for the "Burning Times", a myth at one time rampant in the Wiccan community identifying those who suffered at the hands of the Spanish (and other) inquisition(s) hands, hung, burned at the stake, etc., as all members of Our Religious Tradition (which is a lie). it quickly becomes a kind of Christian martyrdom escapade, recriminations flying this way and that, all to see who has been the Most Repressed People. I call this Christian because in the New Testament there is a whole big deal about how persecuted the truly spiritual folks are. this has occasionally become an important theme to Neopagans and Satanists, after taking names given to minority religious by the "faithful". other names to watch out for in the future will be "warlock", "sorcerer", and "heretic". > i read in a book that everyone is witches, hardly, but some covens consider themselves as such. > but my friend who does magick says that boys are wizards. it is to the benefit of boys that they keep 'wizard' to themselves. even "waer-lochen", or whatever the original term for warlock might be, has some vagueness and may be turned toward a badge to defend against the sour calumnies of one's former religious camisole. blessed beast! lorax666 ======== n a g a s i v a @ l u c k y m o j o . c o m
