And look where the slavish worship of Mercury to the exclusion of Iupiter got the dot.barons! Look upon my works ye mighty.... "If" I were involved in this sort of thing, I'd rely on Mercury to help me manufacture a lucky break. Gambling, reading the tells, counting the cards, noticing which doors are left unlocked and which sheep need stealing. Mercury is the god of arbitrage (magic), structured transactions, creative bookkeeping and undiscovered value. Multiplication of tiny edges. Oceans Eleven. Vegas. Iupiter, on the other hand, provides a different form of capital growth. Compound dividends. Taking advantage of money's natural desire to work to reproduce itself. Fortuitous rewards for good behavior (maybe this is why Santa Claus is such an insightful judge of character) and hard work. The fruits of one's labors in general. Bright-suspender'd Wall Street. The Art of the Deal. One is a scrappy raconteur and the other is a jolly capitalist. Factors of class, of course, can close off worship of king god Iupiter -- perhaps this is why he is primarily a storm god in voudoun, viewed from outside and below -- but Mercury as god of gambleers is open to shepherds and thieves and petty drug dealers, anyone willing to spin the wheel. As crossroad god, he takes as often as he gives. Zero-sum accounting in the end. The god of risk -- Iupiter handles reward, if you want to keep your rewards, best get to know the god of kings. >>whilst Money-spells are attributed to the Sun. > >always? Gold is an alternative to money. It can be translated into money (that's one of its delights), but Apollo is older than cash and independent of it. He's the look that helps any career, the well-fed glow, the miracle of the loaves and fishes, the infinitely renewable power source beating down on the world for free. One's own mileage may vary, of course. These days, gold is a hedge against money's weakness, a counterweight to the global capital universe.
