I've occasionally engaged in this and attempted to facilitate this kind of activity myself by making a place to do it in cyberspace. there's one that just came up again recently which you can easily use complete with props: Divination Web telnet://divinationweb.org:9393 where "QUIT" will always gain exit. this is Divination Web, in which occultism-friendly and spirituality-friendly people are encouraged to congregate. send me email or talk more here if you want to find out more and take a major role in revivifying participation in it. it may simply used to house cyber-rituals, for example, or become a kind of forum in which people enjoy gathering regularly, experimenting with the MUD environs to create symbolic places (text only) in which magic and rites may take place creatively. email me about it or discuss it here for more information. # Also, i would like to know if people engage in online rituals, occasionally I know it to have occurred, yes. we talked about this to a certain extent in usenet some 5-10 years ago and a few of us (mostly Chaotes and a few weirdo mages) undertook to create an easy place for its engagement during the 1990s. this has been up and down several times and is now once again operating. # do they have a schedule or something or basic rules that they must follow? usually people prefer in-person rites, and these aren't always open invitation. unless you're doing it yourself or you happen to be involved with a group of pioneers, don't expect to find mind that is scheduled and waiting for people to join up. # and how much do online-rituals differ from rituals in real life? 'online-rituals' is an ambiguous referent. to a certain extent it depends on the cyber-environment one is using. of course there is no actual physical connection, but this can be somewhat facilitated by descriptive actions such as may be approximated in IRC or in MUDs. # in conduct as well as in the meanings they hold for participants? I've noticed that meaning DOES apply across cybernetic bounds. conduct may or may no vary, I have little duplicated experience of rite with those that I congregated with online (i.e. I didn't circle with people online *and* offline), so I can't be sure. my guess is that online people are more likely to take chances, put themselves 'out there' in terms of ritual activities, and generally use the veil of cyber-mediums as shrouds for what would otherwise be inexperience or inexpertise, but I could well be wrong. I have had very powerful results with the occasional rite online (solo, amongst others who weren't even suspecting they'd wandered into a cyber-rite, and with others who knew what was up) and would recommend experimentation, especially in lieu of physical environs that cannot be found. :> blessed be! lorax666
