Let's see ...

Bob Brier's _Ancient Egyptian Magic_ is a good replacement for Budge's
_Egyptian Magic_.

R. O. Faulkner's _Concise Dictionary of Middle Egyptian_ and _The
Chapters of Coming Forth By Day: The Book of the Dead_ are far
superior to Budge's equivalents.

And finally, Sir Alan Gardiner's _Egyptian Grammar_ is THE textbook on
the subject, although Budge's _Egyptian Language_ is a handy quick
intro to the subject even today.

Hope this helps ...

As for life: I'm at my new job, which pays lots of money, has flexible
hours, and is quite enjoyable. Wednesday arrives here on Saturday and
will be staying with me until we come out to Chicago for Nutmeg.
