I've received a number of messages reminding me that this is
not the first time a Tibetan sand mandala has been constructed in the
West. This is certainly true - I have seen another myself. This is
the first construction of the Mandala of Hayagriva, which is what the
note was intended to say (and why the word "Mandala" was capitalized).

It is most likely the first sand mandala construction viewable
on the Web, but we're not sure - we'd love to hear of any similar
project.

I apologize for any confusion caused by the wording, and hope
that you enjoy the mandala! Our thanks go to all those who wrote with
words of encouragement.
