If you examine the record of the texts of Israel, as well as the historical context of those texts, and the theories of source criticism, historical criticism, et. al., what you discover is a pantheon of gods beneath the texts as subtexts. I am really not interested in proof texting, as it just becomes a tired game, nor am I really interested in teaching, as I find my general enthusiasm for educating Christians about their texts to be waning, but I would just point out in passing that the roots of modern Judaism and modern Christianity share the understanding of a council of heavenly gods and a main god, El, who is often described in terms much akin to Ba'al. In fact, Saul's children were named with names which honored Ba'al. So, this imaginary line of demarcation between Christianity and a pantheon of Gods (as in the first testament) or in relation to a dying and rising god (as in middle eastern mythos in general) or in relation to a younger god and a light bringer (as in greek mythos, among others) is really uninformed.
