In almost all Semitic languages,  Arabic, Hebrew, Aramaic and so forth,
the number 72 stands for Infinity.  It is considered to be the number
'beyond
which other numbers have no meaning.'
    See citations in both the Koran and the Mishna.
One example, 'And when there are seventy two groups of you contending
with each other,  there will still be those who are true to Allah.
