A query from email:

> I'v read that Hoodoo has some Caballistic (spelling here
> may be incorrect, forgive) beliefs...how did Kabbalah
> enter African American Hoodoo?

Basically, kaballism entered hoodoo during the early 20th century
through the distribution of books on European magic, including Jewish
magic and mysticism into the African-American community. I have written
a series of articles online that explain this osmostic process in some
detail. One is the section called "Admixtures" in my page on hoodoo
history and the other is a short-write-up of a book called "Secrets of
the Psalms." I ahve also written a related article on how medieval
German folk-magic entered hoodoo via the book "Pow-Wows or the Long-Lost
Friend." Here are the URLs for these articles. Read them in the order
named and the subject will be pretty clearly set out for you.
