This seems to be a central part of the argument going on here.

And you know? For my money, I don't give a tinker's damn if 'Satan'
was the creation of 14th century monks, or if 'Satan' is the twisted
symbol of 'Set' or some other pre-christian god/goddess.

It doesn't matter where and when and why the symbol set was invented,
only what is done with the symbol set.

To argue otherwise would mean having to admit that as the Qabala was
a Jewish mystical invention, then Ceremonial Magicians are really
closet Jews...
