Not quite - the 'olde gods' thing is relatively new to BM, and is the
source of the now-fairly-widespread "pagan" black metal movement.  Look
at the originators (Venom, Bathory, Hellhammer) - all of those were
rather blatantly anti-xian and/or occult-based.

I know what you're getting at, but that movement came second.  I don't
know if Bathory started it themselves, but they were one of the first -
Quorthon has said in interviews that he felt the 'raagh-satan!' stuff
started feeling silly because he realized that 'satan' in that concept
was just an xian symbol, so he decided to go back into his own cultural
history (hence the start of the viking metal thing).

And even today, quite a few of the 'pagan' bm'ers bash xianity because
of xianity's past oppression of their native cultures (look at Graveland
for a prime example).
