Any discussion of the history of Satanism must mention the best
known real Satanist of them all, Pope Benedict the Ninth, (1032 -
1046) who was the first (Known) person to conduct a mass with a nude
woman on the altar, (At St.Peters Cathederal) the first to describe
the various positions of the woman on the altar, and the first to
introduce the 'Rite of The Goat of a Thousand Young' to the practice
of Satanism.
A most interesting Pope. He is mentioned (Unfavorably) in the
Dialoges of Pope Victor II, the Historia of Rudolph Glaber, and in
Liber ad Amicum of Bishop Bonitho.
Among other things, he sold the papacy to his Uncle so he could
go pay court to a lady in the Roman suburbs. When she turned him
down he returned to Rome and reclaimed the papacy. A good English
Biography waits the writing, but he is also mentioned in 'The Bad
Popes,' by E. R. Chamberlin, published by Dorset Press in New York,
1969.
    Regards,
John M Hansen
