Speaking as someone that has read many of Dr. LaVey's books, I can express a few points concerning Satanists. 1) One of the most important things in the life of a satanist is the truth. Nothing is more important than the truth, no matter what it is. This explains why most Satanists do not use drugs or alcohol, because the cloud the truth. 2) The next thing that Satanists value is the individual. You are the most important thing in the universe. Did you know that the most important holiday to a Satanist is his/her birthday? That's because without it, none of the others have meaning. If you were never born, you could never appreciate anything else. This value of the individual does not stop at humanity, either. This is why Satanists do not perform or even condone animal mutilation, or killing of babies. This hardly respects the individual. 3) Finally, Satanists respect life. Life is a wonderful thing that is filled with joy and anger, fear and serenity, hunger and famine, and an entire host of others. Satanist strive to live life to its fullest, without thought to what others may think of their actions.
