When an office of Police was established the symbol was taken from their mythology. Sir Gwain has always been represented by the pentagram on his shield. For many millenium the Pentagram has been a symbol of protection. From there the tradition of a 5 pointed star representing a law enforcment agaency was born. It is just coincidence that it looks similar to the FOP logo. The FOP takes its imagery from police history. The origins of the Satanic star reach back to the Malifactium. The first instances of the star being a satanic image is during what many pagans refer to as the burning times.
