Apparently there is a difference between Black metal and Death Metal.
Black Metal is the more Satanic stuff that prompted church burnings in
Scandinavia. Read 'Lords of Chaos' by Michael Moynihan for all the
details on this.

I listed to Venom, Death and Slayer as a yute (proto Black/Death metal).
Some of the newer stuff is OK, but it ain't really my style these days.
I prefer Death in June, Dissecting Table and traditional Taiko drumming as
my angry music of choice.
There's lots of ambient stuff these days which is much spookier than any
of the campy spook done by the metalheads. Lull, Lustmord, Archon Satani
and Poison Gas Research, for example.
