To: alt.pagan From: dvera@met.com Date: Sat, 26 Nov 94 14:51:32 EST Subject: Satanism and Wiccan public relations The majority of today's self-described "Satanists" are LaVeyans who don't believe in or "worship" Satan, but regard "Satan" merely as a _symbol_ of independent thought, etc. And among those of us who actually do revere an entity whom we believe is the same entity Christians call "Satan", the vast majority of us do _NOT_ accept Christian theology, but have various other interpretations of who/what "Satan" is. ...To most Satanists, "Satan" is associated with a variety of human traits that Christianity traditionally considers "Evil" (pride, sensuality, etc.), but which a non-Christian wouldn't necessarily consider evil. ...most Wiccans will probably reply that their deities' facets include destruction as a necessary part of the cycle of life. Well, many Satanists have a similar feeling about "Satan". On the other hand, one real difference between Wicca and Satanism is that Satanists generally do _NOT_ believe in the "threefold law" and do allow ourselves the option of retaliation. it _ISN'T_ accurate to say, "Witches are not Satanists." _SOME_ witches _ARE_ Satanists.
