While there was certainly a great deal of support for the Satanic Panic from many political and religious conservatives, liberals/progressives contributed greatly to the phenomenon -- and the SRA "recovered memory" epidemic was perpetrated largely by liberal/progressive counselors. The two groups had different reasons for their susceptibility to the Panic -- Christian conservatives were too willing to believe that Evil Satanists were out there in large numbers committing horrendous acts of sexual violence, while liberals were too credulous about the idea that countless children and women were being horribly abused ("Believe the Children"... even when the children were demonstrably coerced into providing inconsistent and unbelievable testimony). In doubt? Need an example? Look up Janet Reno's history. Pay special attention to her rabid prosecution of child abuse cases, including bogus SRA cases, during her stint in Florida. > Bill Williams -Kerry Delf kld@efn.org ----- "For those who stubbornly seek freedom, there can be no more urgent task than to come to understand the mechanisms and practices of indoctrination.
