I wrote most of it, with James Graeb assisting on a couple of points for
the IInd degree part.  It was mandatory under Grady McMurtry's latter
tenure, but under Fr. H.B. it became optional about 1988 e.v.  It's still
in effect, but no one is required to do it.  IVth degree candidates take an
informational test (not pass or fail) that presumes work on parts of Liber
MCLI.
