This is described in Equinox III, 1 and 10.  A profess house is very similar
to a Roman Catholic retreat house or an ashram.  It's a place to go in
semi-monastic conditions, and meditate or accomplish a magical working.
It is not compatible with a Lodge in most respects.

Not recorded, but many cultures have them associated with temples.

No formal ones, but some places act as informal ones.

Someday.  It's pretty expensive and requires a specialized administration.
Attempts to get them going as share rentals haven't been successful.
