Kenneth Grant is something of an inspired lunatic. He has many fascinating ideas, many of which are utter nonsense, but many others of which are extremely thought-provoking. I have no argument with this approach -- we takes our seeds where we can get 'em. What makes him almost unreadable is his constant self-indulgent lapse in gematric trance states on paper. Who really cares that Nyarlathotep adds to 435, which is the number of the word Gwoop in the ancient Sinaic palimpests, indicating a cylinder or scroll, which in the Outer Mongolian Tantra is engraved with a snake whose name is Fribble, whose name adds to 3,582, which is the Ophidic Current spelled out in Native American pictoglyphs? Does all this really contribute something? I feel like saying, "Yes, Kenneth, I'm glad you're having such a good time, Kenneth, but weren't you supposed to be writing a book about something?" He seems so proud of himself it would be a shame to be mean, but one wishes there were some way of bringing the discussion back on topic. -- Tim Maroney.
