| That depends on your source for what went on at Eleusis. I thought no-one
| knew...

As far as I know, there's no *complete* script extant, but a lot of
separate details have survived. The computer I'm using is not where
my books are, but I believe Encyclopedia Britannica has a hefty article
on the Eleusinian Mysteries. I also have a book tucked away somewhere,
titled (I think) THE RITES OF ELEUSIS, which collects just about every scrap
of classical text referring to the subject and tries to put it together.
I'll post author etc. here when I (a) find the book and (b) get back online.

By the way, notice that Hecate, Demeter, and Persephone are each, in their
own ways, "Queen of Death": Hecate in her role as mistress of the underworld
directs the dead to their various destinations, Demeter as "Black Demeter"
(her winter side) represents death and decay in this world just as her
summer side represents the regrowth of the planted seeds, and Persephone
is the co-ruler of the realm of Pluto -- Hades. Three persons in one divine
Queenship.... Sure sounds like the Christian definition of Trinity, dunnit?
