Oh, it was already Middle English by the twelfth century. You'll have
to go back another three hundred years or so to get to Anglo-Saxon...
Anyways, being a linguistics geek, I just so happen to have a 1953
edition of Sweet's Anglo-Saxon Primer. The glossary gives wita
"councillor, advisor, sage", wis "wise", wicu "weak", and wic
"dwelling, pl. camp". Which isn't terribly helpful (except for
clearing up the word for 'wise').

However, the 1988 edition of Sweet's Anglo-Saxon Reader has the
addition of wicca m. or wicce f. "wizard or witch".
