I gather that in Autumn 1947 he came over to the US, and was still here in early 1948, since he writes to Gerald Yorke that he was in the US at the time of Crowley's death, and only heard about it at that point, some months later (Crowley died in Dec, 1947). Why he was in the US I don't know (possibly knew once...my memory is doing that ticklish thing that happens when a datum is trying to cache back from archival storage to disk space). Paul
