I think this statement is based on a misunderstanding of the AA. For instance, whereas the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was both fraternal and magical, the AA was stricly magical. Many of the AA grades did not even have initiation ceremonies. In those initiation ceremonies that were used, the number of officers was kept *very* small, in keeping with the principle that a member of the AA not know any other members of the order besides his immediate superior and inferior. Thus the AA resembles Martinism more than the Masonic Rosicrucianism of the GD. Furthermore, the Neophyte ritual of the AA (Liber Troa) departed *much* further from the Golden Dawn setup than the OSOGD's. The principle officers were Hermes/Tahuti/the Word in the East, Asi/Demeter/Life in the Southwest, and Hades/Hoor-Apep/Death in the Northwest. See, for example, Liber Pyramidos, a self-initiation ritual based on Troa. The first link has the entire thing but no floorwork specified, the second has only the opening but has the floowork: http://www.geocities.com/nu_isis/liber671b.html http://www.rahoorkhuit.net/library/libers/lib0671_b.html [I also discuss the AA Neophyte opening about halfway down in my essay on the Paris Working (http://bluepyramid.tripod.com/index/id11.html).] Thus the OSOGD is *closer* to the HOGD than the AA in that it is both fraternal and magical and also in that its 0=0 ceremony is based on the square East-West model rather than Liber 671's triangular East-SW-NW model. - Secret Chief http://bluepyramid.tripod.com
