The original poster has now been offered three options:- Various web sites Purchase of a book Joining the Caliphate OTO He or she can now take the course of action that they feel best for them. Just so that they are fully informed I would make some observations. The Caliphate OTO works the rituals as written by Crowley to incorporate Thelema. The book OTO Rituals & Sex Magic has some, but by no means all, of the pre-Crowley rituals. It also has an early pre-Thelemic ritual written by Crowley. It also has other material which throws light upon the Order before Crowley. This material may be available on a website too, I do not know off the top of my head. Secondly the book also has material relating to the Xth degree OTO. The original manuscript is in a University archive in the UK. Of course this might be accessible by joining the Caliphate OTO as they also have examined this archive and incorporated the information into their organisation, but given Xth degree is the national head of the OTO, and Crowley intended there to be only one per country, it is unlikely. Thirdly there are occasional variations between the rituals as written by Crowley and published in the book and on the websites and as practised by the OTO. Mostly these variations are for reasons all can appreciate but in one instance it is controversial. As the candidate progresses through the degrees he or she is required to various oaths, including pledges of secrecy and obedience. Previously these oaths were taken to Baphomet, which some consider to be the egregore of the OTO, and the Inner Head of the Order. They have now been rewritten to be taken to Baphomet, and the present human head of the Caliphate OTO. Some people are happy with this, arguing that this is what Crowley intended. Others disagree. Lastly I would say that if you are considering working the rituals, reading them in advance might lessen some of the dramatic effect. Some have compared the difference between reading a ritual and experiencing it has been compared to the difference between reading a recipe and eating a meal. For this reason I am happy to supply the book with Crowley's Thelemic rituals marked off, so as to make it straightforward to avoid this section. This does still leave a considerable amount of material, including Crowley's instructions for OTO sex magick, Gnostic Catholic Church material constitutional material, historical material, a long (and controversial) introduction etc. With my regards Ben Ben Fernee, Caduceus Books, 28 Darley Rd., Burbage, Hinckley, Leicestershire, LE10 2RL Tel. 01455 250542, + 44 1455 250542 from overseas also 07071 880742, +44 7071 880742 from overseas Fax. 0870 0552982, +44 870 0552982 from overseas Email ben@cadu.demon.co.uk Web pages:- http://www.cadu.demon.co.uk/ http://www.io.com/~albion/caduceus/ Private premises, visitors very welcome by appointment. --------------7FBF513B689E--
