GOOD LUCK
SPIRITUAL SUPPLIES

IN HOODOO ROOTWORK

"Good luck comes in many forms and is symbolized in many ways -- the lucky horseshoe provides protection as well as drawing luck, and the heart shines the way to romance as well as luck in love. One thing about good luck, though -- you know when you've got it, because all your hunches come true, your numbers all hit, and everything you do turns out for the best.."

Good Luck is an old hoodoo formula for oil, incense, sachet powders, and bath crystals that are designed to attract good luck, good fortune, and good times. It is most often utilized as a part of magic spells to win at gambling, but it can augment the "luckiness" factor in love spell work as well.

The label shown here is from a Lucky Mojo brand Good Luck Vigil Candle, burned by those who wish for general good fortune, for as the image of the Spanish-looking lovers inside a heart and a horseshoe indicates, it is both a passion and sexual love spell formula and a gamblers' lucky formulas to bring in the winnings at games of luck and chance.

The same herbs and fragrances used to dress this candle for customers and clients are the basis of Lucky Mojo brand Good Luck dressing oil . used for anointing oneself, fixing the home, preparing green offertory candles or feeding a mojo bag. These herbs and scents also can be found in Good Luck incense powder, sachet powder, and bath crystals.

Like the rest of the Lucky Mojo line, this product contains genuine herbal essential oils, not synthetic fragrances. Good Luck labels are adapted from vintage packaging and in many cases the images are as traditional as the ingredients themselves.

Good Luck is one of a family of related formulas that also includes Fast Luck, Lady Luck, Lucky Number, Aunt Sally's Lucky Dream, Lucky Buddha, Lucky Mojo, Three Jacks and a King, Lucky Hand, Japanese Lucky Seven, and Lucky 13 products. Each one of these old-time recipes is slightly different -- some placing emphasis on catching lucky numbers through dreams, others on being hit with lucky "coincidences" or hunches, and still others on obtaining uncanny runs of finger dexterity at cards or dice -- or all of these combined with luck at love and games of chance -- but they have in common the underlying aim of enhancing the magician's internally generated forces, enabling action upon the external world.

The above formulas may, of course, be mixed and matched in any way that suits the practitioner, or may be teamed up with formulas from another line of goods, such as a financial or money luck formula like Money Drawing, or a passion and sexual love spell formula like Love Me.

How you choose to use Good Luck spiritual supplies is, of course, up to you, but one very traditional method is to employ them in conjunction with the 23rd Psalm, while praying for all that is desired.

PSALM 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures.
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul.
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil for thou art with me.
Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.
Thou anointest my head with oil.
My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Amen.

GENERAL GOOD LUCK SPELL SUGGESTIONS

There are thousands of specific spells that employ a variety of hoodoo spiritual supplies. Here are some of the ways you can use Good Luck brand spiritual supplies to attract the luck you desire.

PREPARATION

You may perform spells for increasing luck whenever you desire. If the need is not urgent, you can take time to align your spell-casting with cosmic forces and work by a Waxing Moon Phase, so that the Moon grows bigger while you work. But don't let the Moon Phases hold you back: if the timing is not right, you can do the work whenever it is best for you.

BATHING WITH HERBAL BATH CRYSTALS

Before dawn dissolve half the packet of Good Luck Bath Crystals into a tub of hot water. Pour the water over your head 9 times as you say the 23rd Psalm and name what you want. Air-dry yourself and collect a basin of the used bath water, which now has your essence in it. Dress in fresh, clean clothes, carry the basin of bath-water to a crossroads and throw the water toward the sunrise in the East. Walk back home and don't look back.

SPRINKLING WITH SACHET POWDERS

Dust your body, your lottery tickets, or your racing form with Good Luck Sachet Powder, or sprinkle a pinch of Good Luck Sachet Powder in the four corners of the room where you plan to do some wagering or card playing or dice gaming. Each time, say the 23rd Psalm and name what you want.

SMOKING WITH INCENSE

Make the Good Luck Incense Powders into cones (use a twist of paper or a small candle snuffer cone, pack the incense in with your finger, and turn it out of the cone) or place it loose on a brazier. Many people find that keeping a pot of Incense smoking while they work increases their ability to break through into a spiritual space or magical way of working.

SETTING CANDLES AS PRAYER LIGHTS

Carve your full name on a green Offertory Candle and dress the candle with Good Luck Oil. As you dress it, speak aloud your petition, such as, "With the help and grace of God, i'm gong to win tonight."

You may burn the candle in sections (generally 15 minutes at a time) or let it burn through to the end, no matter how long it takes. If you burn it in sections, you may fnd it a good idea to light and burn the incense each time as well.

If you want the spell to be ongoing, or ant a light at home to "back you up" while you g to the casino, card room, or race track to play, you would be better off to use a fixed and prepared Good Luck Glass Encased Vigil Candle. Write your petition on paper, cross it with your name written 9 times, and set the Vigil Light in a safe place, such as the sink, bath tub, or shower stall, where it will not cause any problems while you are out.

LUCKY MOJO IS A BRAND NAME

Order-Lucky-Mojo-Magic-Ritual-Hoodoo-Rootwork-Conjure-Glass-Encased-Vigil-Light-Candle-From-Lucky-Mojo-Curio-Company

In the 1920s and 1930s, as the manufacture and distribution of hoodoo spiritual supplies became a full-scale industry based in urban areas, the word "mojo" was adopted as a brand name and trademark for a variety of goods manufactured by Morton Neumann in Chicago, Illinois as part of his line of cosmetics, hair care products, pharamceuticals, candles, incense, jewelry, household goods, trinkets, books, and spiritual supplies

Morton Neumann owned several interlocking companies, of which the largest was Famous Products Distribution, a Chicago mail-order firm that distributed the various Valmor Beauty Products lines of African American personal cosmetics and hair care products, incuding wigs, which he manufactured, packaged, and marketed under a number of brand names, such as Lucky Brown, Sweet Georgia Brown, Madame Jones, and Paris Girl; as well as the hoodoo and root doctoring supplies he manufactured, packaged, and marketed under the line-name King Novelty Company, which included Genuine Mo-Jo Brand lodestones, a line of boxed Lucky Mo-Jo herbs and roots, Lucky Mo-Jo Jickey Toilet Water, and and Lucky Mo-Jo Good Luck Perfume.

Look at the two very old product-labels above and to the left: The name Lucky Mo-Jo was used as a line-band name for Lucky Mo-Jo Good Luck Perfume -- a brand of personal fragrance that was made and marketed by Morton Neumann's Valmor Products from around 1926 through the company's closing in the 1980s. The turbaned Hindu is the logo character for "Mojo Brand Oil" -- a perfumed oil to feed a mojo bag, dress candles, or anoint one's body -- that was made and marketed by Morton Neumann's Famous Products Distribution from around 1926 through the company's closing in the 1980s.

Order-Lucky-Mojo-Magic-Ritual-Hoodoo-Rootwork-Conjure-Oils-From-Lucky-Mojo-Curio-Company

The turbaned Hindu character who adorned the labels of King Novelty Company's Mojo and Lucky Mojo brand conjure and hoodoo goods represented cross-cultural "exoticism" to the African-American community. Other companies also had their own versions of turban-wearing character-icons as brand logos -- Psychic Sciences of Columbus Ohio used a turbanned man on a variety of books and catalogues dealing with spirituality, as well as with stage magic. The Lucky Heart cosmetics company of Memphis, Tennessee, marketed a Hindu Room Spray with a turbaned man on the label. But only King Novelty Company's used the name Lucky Mo-Jo in trade, both as a name and also in conjunction with the turbanned chracter design.

Some of Neumann's brand labels carried this Hindu idea even farther by combining the turban-wearing Lucky Mojo character with the lucky Hindu swastika on one label. This was before Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany and used the swastika to represent the murderous Nazi party, when the swastika had only pleasant connotations. Like many American manufacturers of cosmetics, hair care products, pharamceuticals, candles, incense, jewelry, household goods, trinkets, books, and spiritual supplies during his era, Morton Neumann was of German Jewish descent. As such, he was well aware of Hitler's openly genocidal program against Germany's Jews; so several years before the United States entered World War Two and the Nazi Germany became an "official" enemy of America's, he removed all of the lucky swastika images from his Hindu-themed products, lest they be mistaken for Nazi emblems.

When a trademark has been abandoned -- when the article it once represented is no longer manufactured or sold in trade or commerce -- for a certain number of years, then under United States patent law, another company or business organization may adopt that name as a brand or trademark and use it as its own, without reference to the former comapany's abandoned usage. Morton Neumann, my landsman, passed away in the 1980s. His factory was closed, his companiy's assets were sold off or abandoned, his fine collection of modern art was donated to a museum, and that was the end of his work on Earth.

Thus, in the early 1990s, when i, catherine yronwode, went public with my own company, the Lucky Mojo Curio Company, as a California-based manufacturer and nation-wide mail-order distributor of spiritual supplies, cosmetics, candles, incense, books, writing inks, trinkets, novelty key rings, statuary, religious goods, jewelry, clothing, candies, hair care products, soaps, and gifts, i took up the abandoned trademark for my own company name, removing the hyphen from the Lucky Mo-Jo name to render it singularly easier to spell and parse in the digital age. To a computer, the two character strings are different, so i chose "Lucky Mojo" as the spelling.

Order-Lucky-Mojo-Magic-Ritual-Hoodoo-Rootwork-Conjure-Bath-Crystals-From-the-Lucky-Mojo-Curio-Company

(Allow me to explain this to non-technical readers by providing two examples: [1] machine alphabetization programs consider the hyphen to be a character that comes before the letter "a" and will produce oddly-sorted results if one name in a series of names contains a hyphen; [2] in our radio ads and in speaking by telephone, we want to be able refer to the company web site as "Lucky Mojo Dot Com" because it would be awkward and potentially incomprehensible for a customer service representative or a radio announcer to say "Lucky Mo Hyphen Jo Dot Com".)

Among the first acts of trademark claim i made on behalf of my company, even before registering the domain name luckymojo.com, were to bring out my own new line of Lucky Mojo Good Luck candles, perfumed oils, and sachet powders featuring the Lucky Mojo name, and to bring out my own new line of Lucky Mojo candles, perfumed oils, and sachet powders featuring both the Lucky Mojo name and the character image of the turban-wearing Hindu. You can see these on this page, with ordering buttons.

All of our printed, audio, and digital material covering historical and instructive information on African American culture, and all of our graphic visual artwork that illustrates this material in trade and commerce is protected by copyright and is marked thus indicated in accordance with law. We also trade mark all of the goods, articles, and products we make and sell in commerice with the conventional (TM) mark to signify our trademark ownership, as can be seen on our graphics.

Since 1994, i have used this brand name and band image in trade for my entire company's complete inventory list of 5,000 products, as well as continually marketing the name with the turbaned Hindu character to represent our company's flagship or signature line of Lucky Mojo brand products, namely Lucky Mojo conjure oil, Lucky Mojo bath crystals, Lucky Mojo self-lighting incense powders, Lucky Mojo sachet powders, and Lucky Mojo fixed and prepared vigil candles.

The Lucky Mojo Curio Company web site, the Lucky Mojo Hoodoo Rootwork Hour Radio Show, the Lucky Mojo Forum, the Lucky Mojo Free Magic Spells Archive, the Lucky Mojo Newsletter, the the Lucky Mojo product line, the Lucky Mojo Good Luck product line, the name Lucky Mojo both alone and in conjunction to the image of the head of a man wearing a turban, and the whole panoply of graphic images associated with each product, with each line, and with the company as a whole, including our line of Custom Made Lucky Mojo Hands, are trademarks of (and, where applicable, copyright by) the Lucky Mojo Curio Co., and are not generic terms for the goods or services offered by other manufacturers.

DRESSING YOUR CLOTHING

Whenever it is convenient for you, dissolve the remaining half of the bath crystals in hot water and add the liquid to the rinse water when you do your laundry, especially your underwear and stockings. When you wear these clothes, you will be "dressed" for luck.

CLEANING UP

It is important to properly dispose of ritual remains. Because these are magic spells for good luck, you may want to keep the remains around your home. Wrap up any left-over candle wax, incense ashes, and used sachet powders in a piece of cloth. Secure and tie it with thread or string. Bury it in your back yard.
